Wordless Wednesday: Autism and Ryan

Wordless Wednesday! Such a great time for bloggers to post pictures instead of words. Today I'm posting both.

The little boy in the picture is Ryan, one of my nephews. He is wordless everyday. He has autism.

April is Autism Awareness Month.

Ryan has difficulty expressing his wants, needs, feelings, desires and such. Sometimes, like most children with autism, he hits. This shot shows a bruise on my arm after one of his episodes.

Ryan is now 8 and is involved in intensive therapy. His mom - my sister Lorri - works fulltime with Autism Speaks.

For bloggers, it's fun and exciting to be wordless on Wednesdays. Being wordless can't be fun for Ryan.

Oh my, Ryan is one handsome little fella!

I have a 9-year old nephew who is Autistic. Actually that is his secondary diagnosis, PDD/NOS. His primary diagnosis is brain injury. Fortunately, Tommy is high-functioning. He can speak. Also, after finally finding the right school placement last year, he is just learning to read. Yesterday, he blew his neurologist away by reading a short sentence for him!

My sister's best friend is more like your grandson. He's 10 and is completely non-verbal> He is prone to violent outbursts. He nearly bit 2 of his mothers fingers off about 2 years ago.

Wonderful post, my nephew also has autism and it is such a heartbreaking, complicated syndrome to deal with.

How adorable is he! Great photos and he looks like a very sweet little boy. There was a boy a few years younger than me who rode my bus in high school. He was so cute and always had a smile on his face :)

Great post. My little brother is autistic. He's been in therapy and special schools for it sicn he reachedschool age. It has worked wonders, but he will be graduating "high school" this year. Not sure what happens (might want to ask my parents about that). Hope this little guy can get the same kind of help
