Go Forth and Spread Those Germs

Today is January 8th but it’s a whole lot more than just a date.
According to the sources who seem to keep up with this stuff, it’s National English Toffee Day and Midwife’s Day.
But the one that really intrigues me is this: National Joy Germ Day.
Could someone tell me what National Joy Germ Day is?
After searching for a while, I can figure that it must be a day to celebrate making laughter and joyfulness something to spread. In other words, if you’re going to spread germs, then spread germs of joy. Let laughter be contagious.
I’ve always heard that laughter is the best medicine; that smiles are contagious; that one should let a smile be his umbrella.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said: “Nothing shows a man’s character more than what he laughs at.” Mark Twain has his own saying about laughter: “The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.”
Another quote but one that is anonymous (at least to me): “Laughter is the shock absorber that eases the blows of life.”
Here are a few other favorites: “Laughter is a tranquilizer with no side effects.” (Arnold H. Glasgow)
“What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.” (Yiddish Proverb)
“You can turn painful situations around through laughter. If you can find humor in anything, even poverty, then you can survive it.” (Bill Cosby)
And from Carolyn Birmingham: “A smile starts on the lips, a grin spreads to the eyes, a chuckle comes from the belly; but a good laugh bursts forth from the soul, overflows, and bubbles all around.”
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if, at least for one day, we all went forth spreading germs of joy?
In my little bit of research, though, I found one other reference to “joy germ.” It’s from Kovel’s and is shown below as I found it on the Internet:

Sewing equipment of all types is collected, from sewing birds that held the cloth to tape measures, needle books, and old wooden spools. Sewing machines are included here. Needlework pictures are listed in the Picture category.
Category: Sewing
Pattern or Item: Tape Measure
Description: Lucky Joy Germ, Celluloid, 1920s, 2 1/4 In.

Well, I don’t really understand what that means, but I do understand laughter, so I’m going to just pretend that National Joy Germ Day is a time to spread laughter, joy and happiness!

Let's go forth and spread those germs!
