Did You Love Lucy?

If you’re reading this, that means you’re on the internet.
And if you’re on the internet – which means you know how to use a computer and get on-line – you may be too young to remember some of the good ol’ television shows.
Some of us were talking about those old shows the other night. Boy, what memories! What good, clean fun.
Do you remember any of these?
The Life of Riley, The Real McCoys, The Honeymooners.
How about Red Skelton and his various alter-egos. He was Freddie the Freeloader, Clem Cadiddlehopper, although that spelling might not be correct. Sometimes he got tickled at himself during his routines, making his performance even funnier.
Speaking of people getting tickled on the shows and being unable to stifle smiles and laughter, what about The Carol Burnett Show and Mama’s Family? My two favorites on the first one were Tim Conway and Harvey Korman. There’s almost no one funnier than Tim Conway. Vikki Lawrence as Mama was hilarious.
I Love Lucy. I really do – or did. Great comedy. Lucy and Ethel really created some real doozies with their situations.
The Dick Van Dyke Show. The Little Rascals. Amos ‘n Andy. Howdy Doody. The Three Stooges.
And we remembered The Ted Mack Amateur Hour, Arthur Godfrey, Art Linkletter. You Bet Your Life with Groucho Marx.
Fury. Ruff ‘n Ready. Lassie. Rin Tin Tin.
How about some of the westerns? Cheyenne. Gunsmoke. Sugarfoot. The Roy Rogers Shows. The Virginian. Zorro. Hopalong Cassidy. The Lone Ranger.

Ah, the good ol' days of television. No large screens, no high-definition, often no color. No surround-sound. No 24-hour stations. No individual TV sets for various rooms and family members. But lots of laughs and good memories.

Are you kidding me? I do...I do remember them. ALL of them. But my dad ran the TV so we had to watch what he watched. We didn't have a TV in every room like some now-a-days.

But, I still watch I LOVE Lucy on Cable. And Red Skelton...I LOVE Red Skelton too. Y'know what's ironic about this is, Bud and I were just talking about him the other day...we were talking about his "Heathcliff" character and was trying to figure out what the 2nd one was...finally, we came up with Heathcliff and Gertrude. [sea gulls?]

Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

Oh yes, I loved/love Lucy. They don't make programs like the used to. That's for sure. I really liked the Cosby Show and we still watch Everybody Loves Raymond. We've seen every episode more than once, but watch it over and over because it is so funny.

Everybody Loves Raymond is one of the funniest. I love it. I didn't include it because it seems newer to me. Another I left out is Golden Girls.
Thanks for stopping by and for taking time to comment.

Oh, my goodness. I had forgotten about Heathcliff and Gertrude. Red Skelton was good at all of the characters.
Thanks for your reminder!

We had fun remembering and discussing these the other night. We laughed just recalling some of the specific episodes.

I remember them all too. Now that was television. It was a family event. The television wasn't on all day. The family got together after dinner and turned on the RCA at least five minutes before the show so it would warm up. It was a special time. Yes it was. Have a great day. :)

I loved the episode of Carol Burnett when she comes down the staircase as Scarlett O'Hara.

The other one I just heard about but didn't ever see was when Gladys Knight was on the Mike Douglas Show. Her plane was late, so she wasn't on, but the Pips were there and did the song without her, but were only doing their their part of the song with no lead singer. Everyone who saw it told me that it was one of the funniest things.

Yes, I remember having to turn on the TV so it would warm up -- and the sign-off signal at the end of the broadcast day. I think the station played The Star-Spangled Banner at the end of the day. Perhaps it was something different.

To The Snackhound:
Carol Burnett had some hilarious skits. I just saw one about a discounted airline ticket with Carol, Tim Conway & Harvey Korman. I laughed out loud!

Sherry,
You may get a kick out of this, Matt's favorite TV show growing up was "Lucy Tuesdays". It made for a great family time, and for him being a young man, I thought it was a great choice and probably unusual for a 6 year old!!

Sherry,

"I Love Raymond" is my favorite!
Gary and I also remember all the others you mentioned also. Gary's favorite of all times is "Make Time for Sargents" Gary once made the kids watch this and I'm not sure they appreciated this as much as he did!! You can imagine.

To Joan:
Yes, Raymond is a great one! All of the characters on that show are funny.
