Getting Fitted for a Bra

I can’t remember how long I’ve been wearing a bra, but it’s been well over 45 years.
Just recently, after all this time, I finally got properly fitted for a bra.
Talk about a truly “uplifting” experience – this was it!
At least, the end result was uplifting.

“Bra Lady” – the fitter – and I, the fittee, worked well together. She said lean over and I leaned. She said wiggle, and I wiggled. She said “Put those inside the cups” and I did just that. I learned how many fingers should fit under the strap, under the back – and more.
After several tries, we found three bras that were just right for me.

The next shock was when it was time to pay. Have you priced bras lately? It had been a long time since I had been bra-shopping. Maybe a lot of engineering expertise goes into creating these things.

Bra Lady told me that a woman shouldn’t wear a bra any longer than six months (no, that’s not at one time!) Six months? It takes me that long to break one in! It takes that long for the bra and me to get used to each other.

All in all, the fitting was a positive experience: my boobs are no longer caught in my waistband!

From AMY ZIELKE via e-mail (after she received it from another of our friends, Jane Hartwig:

After your post the other day about a proper bra fitting...

WHAT RELIGION IS YOUR BRA ???

A man walked into the ladies department of a Macy's and shyly walked up to the woman behind the counter and said, 'I'd like to buy a bra for my wife.'
'What type of bra?' asked the clerk.
'Type?' inquires the man, 'There's more than one type? '
'Look around,' said the saleslady, as she showed a sea of bras in every shape, size, color and material imaginable.

'Actually, even with all of this variety, there are really only four types of bras to choose.'

Relieved, the man asked about the types. The saleslady replied:
'There are the Catholic, the Salvation Army, the Presbyterian, and the Baptist types. Which one would you prefer?'

Now totally befuddled, the man asked about the differences between them.
The Saleslady responded, 'It is all really quite simple... '

The Catholic type supports the masses.
The Salvation Army type lifts the fallen,
The Presbyterian type keeps them staunch and upright, and
The Baptist makes mountains out of mole hills.

BRA SIZES:
Have you ever wondered why A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, G, and H are the letters used to define bra sizes?
If you have wondered why, but couldn't figure out what the letters stood for, it is about time you became informed!

(A} Almost Boobs...
{B} Barely there.
{C} Can't Complain!
{D} Dang!
{DD} Double dang!
{E} Enormous!
{F} Fake.
{G} Get a Reduction.
{H} Help me, I've fallen and I can't get up !

I have never been for a bra fitting since the first time I went bra shopping with my mother. she picked the most uncomfortable, ugliest bra they had in the store and proclaimed it to be mine.

I found a great place to buy bras online, figleaves.com. You should look there. They had a great sale right before Christmas and I got mine at 50% off. 6 months? Heck, no! If the underwire hasn't sprung I just keep on wearing them.

I just found this through your Most Popular sidebar link. I just went through this a few months ago and yes I just about died over sticker shock. Not sure what brands you wear but I found that Barenecessaties.co.uk (the UK version of the US site) is much cheaper even with the high shipping. I was able to buy 3 bras with UK shipping to the US for the same price as 2 bras here at the local mall.

I know the recommendation is 6 months but these things better last more than that!
