This Roller Coaster Isn't At The Fair!

I’m on a diet and have been for several months.

When people ask me how much weight I’ve lost, I usually say, “Well, about 1000 pounds over the years.”

Ever since that first pregnancy 35 years ago, I’ve been on a roller coaster with weight. The problem is that the roller coaster didn’t have as many dips or downward spirals as it should have.

I gained 50 pounds with the first pregnancy, 50 pounds with the second and 38 with the third.

I didn’t lose much between pregnancies either.

Pregnancy isn’t the only cause of weight problems, though.

Another is eating.

Yes, I like to eat. Pound cake, bread, chocolate cake, pizza, cookies, fried chicken, potatoes, caramel cake, fudge, gravy, ice cream – well, you get the picture, don’t you?

And guess what I don’t like to do? Yep, it’s exercise. At least I don’t think I like it. Maybe I would – if I’d ever just try it. But since I don’t try, I’m just assuming I wouldn’t like it.

I also don’t like to refuse second helpings or push away from the table when I’m full.

All this weight has caused a few embarrassing moments over the years.

For example, two weeks after my son was born, I was in the grocery store check-out line. As I started moving grocery items from the cart to the cashier’s area, that cashier looked at me and asked, “You haven’t had that baby yet?”

Now, all these years later, I’m trying to watch my intake. So far, it’s working.

Who knows? Next I might even try exercise!

Oh honey. I know exactly what you're talking about! How I LOVE to eat. There's so much delicious food out there! And boo to exercise. I do it only so I can enjoy my dessert.

It's also age...harder to take it off the older you get...oh and menopause...that adds weight too. And looking at food...

I'm riding that roller coaster with you except I've been on it for 42 years. I'd love to know how many pounds I've lost (AND GAINED) over the years. Like you, I am a carbohydrate addict. Love me a good piece of cake, pie, cookie, brownie, etc., etc., etc. What's a body to do? Oh yeah, I also don't like to sweat so that precludes any exercise program. Heck, I don't even walk the dog. If you find any magic pills, let me know. That would be the easy way out.

Good luck with it. Watching intake and exercising is the solution.

I love to eat too. I don't do much of the good stuff anymore. I just can't. Exercise is a must though. Just saying.

Have a terrific day. :)

Too funny, "losing 1000 pounds" over the years. That's a positive way to look at it!

I *hate* dieting, and I'm bad at it. I have no willpower to avoid food, I. Love. Food. So I exercise like a fiend. I guess it's the best (and worst) of both worlds.

I have been on that roller coaster right with you.
I have only been thin once in my life...when I was very young and after I had my first baby I joined Weight Watchers. But I skipped meals to get to my goal weight and was eating way less than they recommended. I became a WW lecturer/leader but never told anyone that I ate less than their recommendations to get rid of the weight. I maintained it only for about 6 months and got pregnant again.
I never lost it all after that.
I did get closer to goal when I dieted again and went to Curves and exercised some. But then I had a hysterectomy and stopped exercising.
I don't think I eat huge portions, and I do not binge. But I eat desserts and full meals and once again, my weight is up. I don't exercise daily and it has been a challenge for me to try and lose again too.
So, I hear you, I relate to you and I feel for you too.
It just seems so unnatural that from all the yo yo dieting, the only way I seem to lose is by skipping meals.
Thanks for reminding me that I am not alone in this struggle!
