Putting My Foot in My Mouth - Big Time!

It’s another episode of getting my words all mixed up.

Several years ago I really put my foot in my mouth while talking to someone with whom I worked. His name is David and, thank goodness, he was and is also my friend.
His father died, so David was out of town for a few days.

We weren’t really expecting him back at work on Monday, but, lo and behold, right in the middle of an afternoon meeting, David walked in. We were surprised to see him.

And I guess it was the surprise that caused me to get words all mixed up.

As David entered the room, I stood up to greet him. What I meant to say was this: “David, I’m so glad to see you and was so sorry to hear about your father.”

Unfortunately, what I actually said was this: “David, I was so glad to hear about your father.”

I gulped. David was silent, but only momentarily.

Then he smiled and replied, “Why, Sherry, I didn’t even know you knew my father.”

Yes, thank goodness, David was a friend ‘cause my foot was all the way in my mouth!

I can get both my feet in my mouth at the same time. This is a good one though. I too am glad David was a friend.

Have a terrific day. :)

Oh, I forgot to mention I love what you've done with your theme. Very attractive!

Ouch! Well, we've all done that sort of thing if that makes you feel any better. :)

Sherry, you didn't put your foot in as far as Joe Wilson did tonight calling Pres. Obama a "liar". Once again, an embarrassment for SC.
