Photo Hunt: Bridge(s) What fun!

This week's Photo Hunt theme is bridge. I had fun with this one!

One of my favorite bridge photos is at the top of this blog. It's one I took several years ago of the old Cooper River bridges connecting Charleston and Mt. Pleasant, SC. The bridges, often referred to as roller coasters, were subsequently dismantled and replaced by a remarkable new span.

Anyone ready to play bridge? Here are four hands just waiting for players.

Here's another kind of bridge. In music, a bridge is a short section of music which helps smooth the transition from one song to another or one section to another. A "mini-bridge" is shown in "New York, New York" in the bottom line below.

These statues overlooking the old Budapest, now separated into Buda and Pest, represent a bridge between people, a bridging of hearts, of beliefs, ideas and such.

Here's a bridge in a park, but I can't remember if I took this shot in Buda or in Pest.

Venice uses waterways as streets. It was an intriguing place to visit. Here are some of the many bridges in Venice, some captured during a gondola ride.

Finally, to end this long post, the words to one of my all-time favorite songs, "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" by Simon & Garfunkel. It's about one of the best bridges of all - true friendship!

When you're weary, Feeling small

When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all

I'm on your side.

When times get rough

And friends just can't be found

Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down

Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down

When you're down and out

When you're on the street

When evening falls so hard

I will comfort you

I'll take your part

When darkness comes

And pain is all around

Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down

Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down

Sail on Silver Girl, Sail on by Your time has come to shine

All your dreams are on their way See how they shine

If you need a friend I'm sailing right behind

Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind

Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind.

An exhaustive and "ex-clectic" essay! (C'mon, you couldn't see that coming? Puhleeze!) I can understand why the folks in Pest would want to connect the two... who'd want to live in "Pest"? I mean really. But they sure did build a hella nice bridge!

Speaking of Bridge (the card game), there is a very clever parody on both the Rubaiyat and Bridge, by Carolyn Wells. We scanned the drawings into one of our websites, and gave both the parodied quatrains and the original quatrains that were parodied.

This is the link: http://www.oldfashionedamericanhumor.com/the-rubaiyat-of-bridge.html

Ms. Wells was extremely clever.

What an amazingly thorough response to this week's Photo Hunt theme!!! I enjoyed the variety immensely. Was that the Bridge of Sighs in the second to the last photo?
Thanks for sharing ...

Very creative, as usual! I visited this last week but was unable to leave a comment (Blogger was going screwy). So I wanted to pop back in and say how much I enjoy your Photo Hunts! And thanks for visiting my Photo Hunt last week. I am finally catching up!
