Mom Is At It Again

It’s Mom again. What better way to start the year than with another story (yes, a true one) about Mom.
If you’ve read this blog much in the past, you already know Mom is a character with some funny, funny stories. All true.

Mom is 83. To say she is active is an understatement.

Among her many involvements is her membership on the church’s bereavement committee. That group provides a meal for family members following the funeral of a loved one.

A few days ago, there was a funeral at the church. Mom had a prior commitment and couldn’t be there to help serve the meal but would provide some food. So, she fixed what she called a “beautiful tray of fresh pineapple and some brownie bites with peppermint icing.”

When she learned they needed some more cake, she decided to take some pound cake she had at the house. Wondering if the pound cake might be a bit dry, she got a container of Cool Whip out and took that along also. She left a note on the Cool Whip saying “the pound cake might be better with this on it.”

Later in the day, Catherine, another committee member, called to see if Mom was home; she wanted to return Mom’s dishes to her. Mom told her she didn’t have to bring them but Catherine insisted.

Apparently what Catherine really wanted was to see the look on Mom’s face when Catherine returned the Cool Whip container, still full.

Yep, still full – of turnips! Mom had leftover turnips in the Cool Whip container! She hadn’t bothered to open the container to see if there was really Cool Whip inside.

Don’t you imagine the volunteers in the church kitchen were awfully surprised when they opened that plastic container to put the contents on top of the pound cake? How long did it take them to realize those were turnips instead of some sort of special pound cake topping?

Way to go, Mom!

Poor Mom must have been so embarrassed. But I'll bet her special turnip and pound cake recipe will be remembered for a good long time.
She sounds like a sweetheart.

Oh, that is a priceless story. Wouldn't you love to have been there to see the look on her face when she found out? Bless her heart! I think probably most of us can relate to this story, wither from our own misadventures or through those of our own parents. I know I can.
