Introducing . . .

Introducing "my" dancers. These wonderful ladies are the St. Luke's Steppers from St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Summerville, South Carolina. They are my students - and my friends.

We started dancing a little over a year ago. The group is for folks 50+; some danced as young children; some had just dreamed of learning to dance. Tonight marks the group's first public performance, although the Steppers have entertained at church fellowship functions before. Tonight they are providing the entertainment at the "Miss Summerville" pageant, a local Miss America preliminary. The three numbers they'll perform tonight are "Charleston," "Forty-Second Street" and "Greased Lightning." Kneeling (left to right): Mary Coker, Trish Scott, Sandy Freshman, Marilyn Zielke; Standing: Carol Eberhardt, Carolyn Buscaglia, Diane Neal, Sue Thomas, Helen Hiott and Mary Smith. (Not pictured: Linda Baumgart and Dee Barrera.)

No, I don't think we'll replace the Rockettes any time soon nor do I think we'll be performing on any major network shows. The group did, however, make YouTube last year in its first-ever performance anywhere. Besides that, we have FUN!

Oh, Sherry, I love this! I belonged to a group like this when I lived in Louisiana called The Owl Players and we performed at nursing homes, etc. How I miss that group of girls! Tell your ladies what a wonderful opportunity they have to be members of such a great group!

I have always wanted to be a good dancer but I am slightly uncoordinated. Maybe more than slightly if the truth be told. My dreams of dancing with the stars will have to wait. Thank you for visiting my blog!

This is so neat. The first picture reminds me of a skit we (counselors, teachers, etc) did at a summer youth camp many years ago. We dressed just like this picture (flapper style) and sang Delta Dawn. What fun.
I see you are somewhat of a political junkie. So am I. I get so discouraged sometimes though that I think I am just going to stop listening to anything political. It still makes me furious the way they treated Sarah Palin. I'd better not get off on that.
Thanks for visiting my blog. I've enjoyed my visit here.

If that group is for folks over 50, then you don't look like you qualify.

Tsk. Tsk.

Thanks to all of you for your comments. The dancers performed three numbers on Saturday night and did a wonderful job. And to PurpleGreen Pops: oh, yes, I qualify. This is the year I turn 60! But thank you for your kind comments, even in tongue in cheek.

Your group looks like they know how to have a good time and get some exercise to boot! Keep up the good work.

What fun! Wish I lived close enough to participate. I've always wanted to learn to dance! And I definitely fit the age requirement!

Love the dancers! That looks like so much fun.

Thanks for the comments on my blog about the weddings. I need to learn some dance steps for the wedding and so does hubby. Wish we lived closer! :)
